It is often forgotten that Ramirez’s other legacy was the cedar soundboard which now stands as equal first with the spruce soundboards which until his time were the only choice available.
The “A” model we have is French polished throughout. When Michael Butten (postgraduate scholar in guitar performance at the Royal Acadamy) played it his opinion was that it was the guitar to recommend to his more advanced students – not because of its historical interest but because it was so wonderful to play and to listen to.
